“My goal is to create an emotional connection between the viewer and the painting.”
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
My artwork is from a realism perspective with impressionist overtones. While I focus on form, color and movement in painting, my goal is to create an emotional connection between the viewer and the painting. Landscape pieces are from places around the globe but still feel familiar. Varied still life, portrait and human figure pieces are also in my portfolio in a limited number. I have worked in both acrylic and traditional oil but I feel that oil more easily captures a certain softness of form.
Many viewers find my artwork to be meditative, bringing a sense of peace which, in turn, is what painting brings to me.
About Mary
Mary spent her most of her childhood and college years growing up in sunny Florida. Art was always a big part of her life, but she also had a love for science and she wanted to help people. She received a Bachelors of Arts from Wells College and then went on to receive her M.D. from Miami School of Medicine. After Medical school, Mary practiced psychiatry for many years.
While she loved her work as a Psychiatrist, being a professional while raising two children (and several needy pets) didn’t leave Mary much time to pursue painting. As soon as she retired, Mary enrolled in community art classes and picked up right where she left off!
In addition to her passion for art, Mary also enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
